Matching & Mentorship
Basics
How is the ALL Mentorship Program different from the Northwestern Network Mentorship Program (NNMP)?
The ALL Mentorship Program seeks to create a more tailored mentoring experience than the Northwestern Network Mentorship Program. Whereas the NNMP’s main focus is industry/professional interests, we encourage ALL Mentorship Program participants to explore broader topics related to life experiences, in addition to career-related subjects.
Who can participate in the ALL Mentorship Program?
Degree-seeking Northwestern students and Northwestern graduates of any degree-granting program are eligible to participate. The ALL Mentorship Program is open to anyone seeking a mentorship opportunity rooted in shared affinity, interest, and experience. Individuals with diverse backgrounds—including, those identifying as Black, Latinx, Asian and/or indigenous, and those who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community—are encouraged to register. Faculty, staff, parents, certificate students, and friends of the University are not currently eligible to participate.
I don't live in Chicago/Evanston. Can I still participate?
Absolutely. This is a global program. Leaders and Learners can connect via phone, email, or video chat.
If I am already enrolled in the Northwestern Network Mentorship Program, will my profile automatically populate when I enroll in the ALL Mentorship Program?
Yes, if you log in using your existing account, your basic alumni and student profile information will auto-populate. Note that additional information specific to the ALL Mentorship Program will need to be completed.
Which affinity groups are participating in the ALL Mentorship Program at this time?
All affinity groups are welcome to participate; curreltny, this program partners with the Northwestern University Black Alumni Association (NUBAA), Northwestern University Asian and Asian American Alumni Association (NU-A5), Northwestern University Pride Alumni Club (NUPAC), Latino Alumni of Northwestern University (LANU), Northwestern University Muslim Alumni (NUMA), and Native American and/or Indigenous students and alumni. We hope to welcome more affinity clubs in the future.
Can alumni be learners in this program or just mentor leaders?
At this time, alumni can participate in the ALL Mentorship program only as leaders/mentors.
Can graduate or professional school students sign up to be learners, as well?
Yes, graduate and professional school students are eligible to participate as learners (mentees).
I forgot my username and/or password. What should I do?
If you forgot your username, email ALLmentorship@northwestern.edu and we will send you your username (i.e. the email you used when creating your account).
If you forgot your password, click the link that says "Forgot your password?" on the login page and type in the email address you used to create your account. You will then receive an email allowing you to reset your password.
Matching & Mentorship
How are Leaders and Learners matched?
After registration has closed, we will use a matching algorithm to match participants with one another and staff then review each match to ensure it seems like a good fit. Using the information shared in participants' profiles, matches are based on club affinity, discussion topic interest, career interests, preferred frequency and method of meeting, and education information.
What is the time commitment involved for being a Leader or Learner?
We purposefully have designed this program to be flexible for alumni leaders and student learners. You and your leader/learner have complete control over your mentorship relationship and can decide how often you want to meet at the onset of your mentoring relationship. Once matched, we ask that you discuss how much time you can commit to the relationship. Based on user profiles, we also have tried to match participants with similar meeting frequency preferences.
What if there is a problem with my leader/learner relationship?
If you have questions or experience any issues with your mentor leader or mentee learner, please reach out to the ALL Mentorship Program manager at ALLmentorship@northwestern.edu. The program manager can offer solutions to improve the relationship or, if necessary, formally terminate the relationship.
